NBC penalises 88 broadcast stations for breaching code
The Nationwide Broadcasting Payment (NBC) has sanctioned no fewer than 88 broadcast stations for breeching quite a few provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code inside the fourth quarter (This fall) of 2017.
The stations, which included radio and television outfits, had been fined over N11 million.In a press launch yesterday in Abuja, Head, Public Affairs at NBC, Mrs. Maimuna Jimada, disclosed that their offences ranged from breaches of tips on vulgar lyrics, unverifiable claims and hate speeches, amongst others. She recognized that broadcasters have an obligation to promote the socio-economic wellbeing of the nation and abide strictly by the provisions of the Broadcasting Code.
Jimada talked about the erring stations have been sanctioned in quite a few courses in keeping with the provisions of the code.A breakdown of the guidelines confirmed that 19 stations had been fined N2.1m in Abuja Zone, three stations had been fined N400,000 in Benin Zone, whereas 20 stations had been fined N2.225m in Enugu Zone.
